![]() When I started my "blog challenge" to myself I chose 90 days as the right length of time. Why 90 days? A week didn't seem like enough. A good start. But so what? A year was far too long. Too many potentials for pitfalls. In my radio sales job, we sell in quarters. 13 weeks. That's 91 days. Felt about right. Many years ago I took on a painting discipline. It started with a random stop into an art supply store. At the time I was involved with a direct selling company, and we were taught a "21 day success plan". based on the idea that it takes 21 days to make or break a habit - good or bad. I challenged myself to do something - anything - involving drawing or painting for just five minutes a day for 21 days. And I did it! Had some good momentum going, decided to continue for a year. That's right. 365 days. And I DID IT! The power of taking on a large discipline in small bites. Like they say about how to eat an elephant. (Whoever 'they' are?!) Consider what creative endeavor you might be wanting to start... then consider setting a 21 day challenge to yourself. Just 5 minutes a day for 21 days. No excuses. That's 105 minutes. A little more than an hour and a half. May not sound like much, but it's 105 minutes more than if you didn't do anything at all - if you keep waiting for "the perfect time" to begin. And I promise you - absolutely guarantee you - that at least a few of those 5 minute days will turn into 20 minutes, or half an hour, or longer. Because it's the getting started that is the biggest challenge. Sitting down to the sketchpad. Or the piano. Or whatever your creative joy is. Have FUN with it! And if you need an accountability partner, reach out to me. to the blog world. Please do share your journey! We learn from one another. Happy Saturday! Happy Creating! xo Mimi PS - a musical interlude? Oh dear - did I already blog this one?! A favorite that I often play when I start at the easel. When I Paint My Masterpiece.
