![]() I received a call a few weeks ago from a friend in Pennsylvania with whom I had not spoken in several years. Not because we didn't care. We just didn't call. "Mitch and I want to come visit you on Cape Cod!" she said. I was excited - and touched. Re was my maid of honor when I got married in 1985. She and Mitch drove the getaway car from the wedding to the reception. She was our first hospital visitor after Anna was born in 1989. And they shared dinner with my husband and me the weekend my dad died. She knew me well, then. They arrived last evening. And we've been doing 'the tourist thing.' Eating out - showing them around town - and this afternoon, Pops by the Sea with the Boston Pops in Hyannis. Eating out again, and again! But MOST important - we've had time. Together. To talk about life. Now. AND the past twenty years. Last night I went to bed with a jumble of thoughts in my head. Reminded of way too many bad choices made in those years. Choices that seemed good at the time but in hindsight, well... This morning, I woke up in a brief funk. The remembered it was Sunday morning. My favorite day of the week because I get to play worship music, and take part in worship with my friends. I prayed about the thoughts of last night, and as the morning progressed, was reminded time and time again of God's love for me, forgiveness of those past bad choices, and the joy of being born anew in Christ. It was a day to cherish friendship, enjoy summer on Cape Cod, and realize that my past is simply that. My past. Today, and every day, I get to start new. Make better choices (hopefully). And embrace the multitude of gifts with which God blesses me. oh - and the 'extra' fun today - the Pops played Stars and Stripes - my FAVORITE - I LOVE when the piccolos get to solo! YAY!!! Like 4th of July all over again on August 14. Independence Day. You betcha! Film version on Facebook when I figure out how to post it! xo Mimi

The first one I've read. Why? because I just got off the phone from a bumpy conversation with an enduring friendship. It seemed meant to be. My final question - whispered, "So now are we O.K.?" "Yes," she whispered back, "I love you."
