![]() ... that an ice cream sandwich could evoke poignant memory. When my mother was in the nursing home for the last seven years of her life, one of her favorite treats for me to bring to her from the outside world was an ice cream sandwich. In the beginning we would each have our own. Eventually we shared one. Funny thing is that the memory goes back a whole lot further for me. Back to when I was about five years old, and we would pick up groceries at the local corner grocery store in Camp Hill, Pennsylvania (do any of you remember Caveny's Market, across from Camp Hill High School?). She would buy an ice cream sandwich for us - one of the Hershey's Ice Cream Ones. Yellow and white package. I can still picture it. She would cut it in two, and we'd share it. I suppose you could call that full circle. Today I bought one, just for me. And thought of her. Funny, the things that connect us to people. Why am I sharing this? Oh - I don't know - I guess simply because it was a moving moment in my day. And maybe as a reminder that sometimes the very simple things - a whopping $1.29 expense - can convey more meaning than we anticipate. Lots of those things in my life. What are yours? Share one in the comments if you'd like. Love to all. Me.
