Day 81 - Playful faith

 Playful faith.

Or should I call it faithful play?

They both end up with the same result.

I’m going with the first one.  Because I think the world needs a bit more of it, especially right now.

Faith.  In God.  That is playful, rather than ever so serious that it makes people run and hide.

I am not being disrespectful.  I get it, that believing in Jesus Christ and Easter and the resurrection is serious business, because it can and will change our lives in ways unimaginable.  That’s a big statement.

Yet I also believe that the message of grace and forgiveness offers us joy and love beyond anything we might envision.

The God I talk to every day in prayer has a lovely sense of humor.  And compassion.  And you want to talk about creativity?  Well - just look around.

Yes, I know.  There is ugly in the world, too.  Trials and struggles and illness and war and violence and poverty and I could go on and on...

But I ask you - where do you want to dwell? In sorrow, or in joy?  And which would you rather share with those around you?  Do we lighten someone else’s burden by being somber and downtrodden, or are we more effective by bringing them hope?

My new class offering (how’s that for a seque?!)  is called Playful Faith.

It is the culmination of 15 years of working with The Artist’s Way, by Julia Cameron, and learning what works best in my creative life, and what does not.

The discipline of morning pages will become prayer.

The weekly artist’s walk will embrace God’s creation around us.

And the creative process itself will become one of honoring the gifts given to us by our Creator.

I do recognize that there will be those who do not take the class because they are not on the same page with these ideas.  And that’s ok.  In the same breath, I must acknowledge that I have often felt stifled in previous Artist’s Way groups by not being able to speak freely about my faith, or how it colors my creative adventures.

Consider joining me for six weeks to see where this goes… it’s going to be “Mimi unleashed!”  (uh oh….)

Registration is open.  Classes begin October 25. More info on my website MIMISART.
